Liverpool are set to face Chelsea tonight for the UEFA Super Cup, and center back Virgil Van Dijk believes the West London blues have more than enough to challenge.

Chelsea struggled in their first competitive fixture without Eden Hazard. As they fell face flat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Apparently, the odds do not favour Frank Lampard’s side, not without the services of Eden Hazard – who particularly proved too stubborn to put down against the same opponent last season.

Virgil Van Dijk is however of the opinion that Chelsea will come out different than they did against Manchester United. As he believes the London club still have “plenty quality” players, despite losing Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in the summer.

“[Hazard] is a quality player and he was important to them but I think they have plenty of quality players,” Van Dijk told reporters.

“I think they play a little bit different than they did last year.

“We will analyse them and then we will be prepared.

“Nothing that happened last season will have any impact on what is going to happen. It is going to be a new game.

Liverpool go into tonight’s game without the services of first choice goalkeeper Becker Allison. After the goal keeper injured his calf against the newly-promoted side in the opening day fixture.

New signing Adrian is expected to step up, in place of Allison, and Van Dijk believes the former West Ham goalkeeper is up for the challenge against Chelsea.

“I think he played many big games in his career so I don’t think he is going to be nervous or anything,” he said.

“It is just that he has to do his job with us and hopefully we can win the trophy in the end.”
