Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will go head to head, in the race to sign James Maddison. After Spurs identified the playmaker as a perfect replacement for Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen looks almost certain to be leaving Tottenham Hotspur, with the Dane having refused to sign a new contract at the club and making it clear his decision to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
The 27-year-old’s exit will be leaving a massive hole in the heart of Spurs’ midfield. And the club has now identified James Maddison, as the best alternative and replacement to the playmaker.
Tottenham will attempt to sign Maddison, with the club likely to cash in on Eriksen in the January transfer window, rather than let him leave for nothing in the summer.
Maddison, 22, has been one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League so far this season. The midfielder proving instrumental to Leicester City’s incredible run under new manager Brendan Rodgers.
Spurs’ will, however, face serious competition in the race to sign James Maddison – who does not have a buy-out clause in his contract. – With Manchester United believed to plotting an £80million deal to take him to Old Trafford.
According to Mirror, there are no stern suggestions that James Maddison wants to leave Leicester City. Although the player has admitted in the past, he wants to play at the ‘highest level’ [Champions League].
The battle between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will drag on to the winter, or even the summer. It remains to be seen whether Spurs can compete with United in terms of wages.
However, the case with James Maddison could be long forgotten, should Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City secure Champions League football by the end of the season.
