Zinedine Zidane has revealed his decision to drop Courtois from the Matchday squad following his return to the dugout, isn’t final and that “Thibaut is going to play again”
The Frenchman has no intention of putting all his eggs in one basket, and is hoping to utilize all available resources and talent at his disposal. Meaning, summer signing Courtois has no automatic claim to the No 1 goalie spot at the Santiago Bernabau anymore.
Courtois arrived on the fairies wheel, and almost instantly took pole spot over Keylor Navas under previous managers Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari. However, Zidane hopes to do things differently and is keen on ensuring Courtois, Keylor and Luca(Zidane) all make a meaning contribution in achieving the club’s goals.
“No one can take away what all these players have achieved in the past. I have a squad of 25 players and I am going to have to count on all of them, on Courtois, Keylor, Isco.
“Those who played today were very good but I am going to use everyone. There are of course those who are sometimes going to be left out, who are not going to play.”
He added: “It’s not a final decision, there are 10 games left.
“Thibaut is going to play again and the third goalkeeper is Luca (Zidane). That’s three good goalkeepers but Madrid should have three or four great goalkeepers.
“You cannot contest four, five or six competitions with just one great goalkeeper.”
Elsewhere, Real Madrid have been linked with securing long time target David De Gea from Manchester United, with reports the Frenchman has reserved £75 million in a bid to lure the Spaniard back home.
