Italian side AS Roma are interested in Man Utd target Toby Alderweireld, and could activate his £25 million release clause this summer.
Toby, 30, has been a long time target for Premier League side Manchester United under Jose Mourinho. However, the red devils gave up, and Ole has apparently made his intentions of building a younger squad clear with his first two recruitments.
AS Roma might be alone in the race to sign Toby Alderweireld, but the Serie A side would still have to beat the clock, if they hope to secure the Belgian for £25 million, as the clause in his contract is set to expire two weeks before the end of the English transfer window.
The center back has only a year left on his contract with Tottenham Hotspur, and is expected back in training at the club on Friday to fly out with the rest of the squad for their pre-season tour to Asia.
The 30-year-old – who joined Spurs for €16 million back in 2015 – has made 142 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals, and providing two assists to establish himself as one of Premier League’s best central defenders.
According to reports from Sky Italy, Roma are planning to sign two new central defenders this summer following the sale of Kostas Manolas to Serie A rivals Napoli in a £32.3m deal last month, and have identified Toby Alderweireld as a potential target to fill the role.
