Rodrygo: I don't want the pressure of replacing Cristiano Ronaldo - Rodrygo, real madrid

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has gone from strength to strength in the past week. But the 18-year-old wants no comparison to one of the game’s greatest Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Los Blancos had signed Eden Hazard in the hope to fill the massive void left by the Portuguese legendary striker. However, the Belgian is yet to live up to expectations.

And Rodrygo hopes the responsibility does not fall to him, at least not yet.

“I had the dream of playing with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid and it’s a shame that he left,” Rodrygo said in Brazil’s pre-match press conference.

He, however, explained: “I don’t want to carry the pressure of replacing Cristiano.”

Rodrygo’s sudden jump to the top of the food chain was not expected. Not even by the 18-year-old himself, who has described the moment as ‘special’.

“I didn’t expect everything to happen so fast, not even in my dreams,” he said.

“A few weeks ago, I was thinking of making my debut in the Champions League; I don’t know how to explain my feelings after the hat-trick.

“It was definitely unique and special.”

On Raul Gonzalez who has coached him at Castilla and his status at his new club, Rodrygo said: “I talk a lot with Raul, he was my coach at Castilla and he always gives me good pieces of advice,” Rodrygo said.

“My career at this club has just started and I hope one day that I can be as great as he was.

“I don’t feel pressure, I’m enjoying this moment.”
