Once upon a time, everyone attributed Real Madrid’s astonishing success to a simple star-studded Los Blancos team and an ever reliant Cristiano Ronaldo.
Little or nothing was ever said to or about the man behind the wheels, calling the right shots and making the right decisions to tweak the future in the Bernabeu’s favor.
Now here comes Zinedine Zidane, a blessing from heaven says Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. But seriously it shouldn’t have taken this long to realize, Zizou is both the driver and engine at Madrid.
What the Frenchman did in his first stint at Real Madrid was no fluke, and I can’t but imagine what it would be like if he had the services of Lionel Messi and few more names like Ernesto Valverde does, or maybe the resources provided to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Well, no matter the manager has added another silverware to his ranks and is seemingly succeeding when apparently two managers and countless others in the past have failed and won the first title in his second stint as Real Madrid manager.
Zidane headed for the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah for the Spanish Super Cup without the services of three top front men including Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard, and Karim Benzema.
However, the team returned unscathed and now have another trophy to add to their already overflowing collection.
It’s been just six months since his rebuild began, and Zizou already has Perez believing and gushing for more success in the future.
“[Zidane] has plenty of trophies and we’re very happy for him,” Perez said. “I hope that he wins more trophies.
“Zidane has a loving relationship with Real Madrid. He decided to rest for a year and now he’s returned with renewed energy. Zidane is a blessing from heaven.”
Real return to La Liga action on January 18 against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu. Zidane only bested by Barcelona’s superior goal difference, and now hoping to turn the tide in their favor once and for all.
Now do you believe?
