Paris Saint Germain forward Neymar Jr is pushing for a return to Spanish club Barcelona, and it seems the forward has finally made some progress, as the club’s sporting director Leonardo has admitted that Neymar could leave this summer.
The 27-year-old world record signing, has spent just two years at his new club, and is now seeking a return to Spain. Failing to report to PSG’S pre season training on Monday.
In the event of Neymar’s absence, Paris Saint Germain released an official statement vowing to take ‘appropriate actions’ against the player for failing to report to the club on the scheduled day.
Neymar’s father and agent has hit back at the club, following the news of Neymar’s absence, saying the club were aware of the situation and that he [Neymar] would return to the club after overseeing commitments with his institute based in Sao Paulo.
In an interview with Le Parisan, Leonardo however confirmed Neymar Jr could leave the club, as he seems to have his mind made up on returning to Barcelona.
“It’s clear to everyone [he wants to leave]. But in football, you say one thing today and tomorrow another … It’s amazing but it’s like that.” He said.
“The position is clear for all. But one thing is concrete today: he still has three years of contract with us. And since we have not received an offer, we can not discuss anything.”
Leonardo added: “We have not received any offers. But we had, it’s true, very superficial contacts [from Barcelona]. They said they wanted to buy but we were not sellers.
“Neymar can leave PSG if there is an offer that suits everyone. But to date, we do not know if anyone wants to buy it or at what price.”
According to several reports, the Catalans will most likely propose a player plus cash offer to the French Champions, with Philippe Coutinho believed to be the most likely inclusion to seal the return of his country man who left the club for €222m back in 2017.
