What’s wrong at Manchester City? Are the citizens and Pep Guardiola still favorites for the Premier League title?

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola took a major hit, to their Premier League title defense, as the citizens lost 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Before the start of the season, the Premier League was voted a two-horse race between Manchester City and Liverpool. However, Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side have raced off to an eight-point gap, and apparently, Guardiola’s side seem to be hanging on to the trophy by a thread.

Earlier in the season, Pep Guardiola revealed he wouldn’t be concerned if Manchester City fail to win a trophy. What exactly did the manager mean by that? It seemed as if Pep was already yielding and accepting his defeat to Liverpool.

City have endured two defeats already this season. That’s two less than the citizens recorded throughout last season’s campaign and already more than the number of draws in just eight matches.

Liverpool on the other hand seem to be the City we all knew. Eight matches, eight wins, no loss, no draw, and a comfortable place at the top of the Premier League table.

At this rate, City are the best chance of slowing down Liverpool. But even the citizens have a whole lot to worry about, than just Jurgen Klopp’s impressive side.

Speaking after Wolves’ loss, Guardiola conceded that he wasn’t sure whether the Reds will drop many points throughout the remainder of the Premier League campaign. But it all seemed as if the manager was banking on Klopp repeating last season’s slip up again.

“It is a lot of points,” Pep said. “They [Liverpool] don’t drop points for many reasons.

“But it is better not to think about that. It is better to think about what is next.”

He added: “Today was the day we were not on our level. The previous games were good.

“The distance is big, Liverpool have not dropped points. Now is the time to come back.

“The results will dictate the situation but we are in October and there’s a long way to go.”

Jurgen Klopp is many things but is not one to repeat a mistake twice. Manchester City will need more than sheer luck to compete, but first, the citizens will need to get back to winning ways.

City were favorites, but at the moment Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool once again own the Premier League. A prize they won’t be letting go of that easily this time.
