The cry for a center back by the “special one” has finally been heard, only it’s too late for the Portuguese manager who has already been relieved of duties at Manchester United two months back.
Jose Mourinho’s demand for a new set of center backs at the club, was left unanswered, and eventually saw the manager out the door.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge of Old Trafford, and after a record ten wins in eleven matches, the Norwegian succumbed at the feet of the Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League round of 16 fixture.
In the wake of United’s 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford, Peter Schmeichel has called for a review of Jose Mourinho’s defensive demands, stating the manager was nevertheless right, and that the Man United faithful shouldn’t be carried away by Solskjaer’s 10 wins in 11 games.
Speaking to BeIn Sports a per reports via Metro, Schmeichel said:
“I don’t think anyone… you can get carried away because you’re a fan, you’re allowed to be carried away with the 10 wins in 11 games but in the broader perspective we already know Mourinho was fighting to get a centre-half or even two in the summer
“He was doing that because there is a problem in centre-half or in central defence.
“There are a few guys out there who can do the job but that problem hasn’t gone away.
“That was exploited today.”
