News of Paul Pogba’s imminent departure from Manchester United have made the rounds, with the player’s agent Mino Raiola claiming Paul’s mind was made up and that the club’s hierachy knows it.
However, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed at a news conference in Perth on Wednesday, that the club have received no formal bids for any of their players including Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.
“There has been loads of talks and speculations about many of our players, both ins and outs. For me, it’s business as usual,” Solskjaer said.
“When you’re at Man Utd, you expect all these things to pop up in the summer and, of course, I’ve been in touch with Paul, spoken to Paul, spoken to Rom, spoken to Rashy [Marcus Rashford], Jesse [Lingard], spoken to all the players more or less over the summer as you do, you keep in touch with them.
“As far as I’m aware and up until now, we don’t have any bids for any of our players… Paul, or most of our players, [have] got long contracts.”
Man Utd should Sell Paul Pogba
While Solskjaer is confident of keeping Paul Pogba at the club beyond the summer, Ex Man Utd midfielder Kleberson says French star is not what the club needs, and has advised that United ‘sell Pogba’ this summer.
“It is the right move to sell Paul Pogba, he’s a great player and his talent is unbelievable,” Kleberson told Manchester Evening News.
“But his style is a little bit different, and not particularly what Man United need.
“He could use this opportunity now to leave and get a fresh start, play in a different atmosphere, and embrace a new challenge.
“Sometimes it’s hard to come to Manchester United and adapt to play a particular style. It doesn’t mean he’s not a good player with great quality. There’s a lot of criticism around the players, sometimes it doesn’t always go well.
“You work hard, you want to perform for the team, but some things go wrong, and these can be out of your control.”
Kleberson – who spent two underwhelming years in Manchester – refused to compare his issues at Manchester United to what Pogba is experiencing and says the midfielder should be performing better, having being provided with sufficient opportunities to do so.
“Paul Pogba had played a lot more games, more opportunities than me when I was at Man United,” Kleberson said.
“I had many injuries in the time when I was there. He’s played well since being there but not to the level we should expect from him. When he plays for France, we see it, he was a massive part of them winning the World Cup. He’s the heartbeat of the France team.”
Paul Pogba’s ideal replacement
While Manchester United have no intention of selling Paul Pogba, the idea of the midfielder leaving Old Trafford this summer is one that is quite feasible, and United may have to accept defeat at some point and move on from the Frenchman.
According to reports, the red devils will target Lazio’s super star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – who the Serie A side had refused to part with in the previous summer. However, Lazio have lowered their asking price, from a proposed €100m to a fee within a range of €70m, in a bid to attract more suitors.
Elsewhere, Man Utd have also been linked with securing Chelsea flop Bakayoko and Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes, while Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic have also been mentioned. Although the Croatian has insisted on staying at the Camp Nou, despite the arrival of his long term replacement in Frenkie De Jong.
