In case you haven’t heard, Manchester City pummeled Chelsea in the Premier League weekend Super Sunday clash, in a fixture which ended 6-0 and Sergio Aguero grabbing a hat trick of goals in the process.
It was Chelsea’s second heavy defeat in the past three Premier League matches, after the West London blues were also thrashed by a brilliant AFC Bournemouth team.
N’golo Kante’s top four dreams for Chelsea is surely out the windows, after he watched his club go down to 6th place on the log, having lost ground on points and goal difference to allow Man United and Arsenal leap-frog them on the Premier League table.
Prior to the game, N’golo Kante had talk up a top four finish for the club, whilst admitting a title challenge was a little too ambitious at the moment. However, with a bad performance against the citizens, even a top four finish is now a doubt for the French man and Chelsea.
“It’s been a little bit difficult away from home in 2019, but we will try to get the result we want because we need to start to have many wins to keep the top four spot.” Kante had said.
“I think we are a little bit far from the title race, but we will try to give our best until the season has finished,’ he said. ‘The most important thing is to finish the season in the top four. If we do very well and we are able to fight for the title, why not, but the most important thing is to get into the top four.”
“I think if we have a review of the first six or seven months of the season, we have had a little bit of inconsistency when we lost some games to put us in the position we are in now, but we need to work hard, keep going and go on a good run. We are still in four competitions and we can reach our goals.”
Chelsea will need to be near perfect to see themselves back in fourth place before the season ends, with fixtures against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool all still in place among other tough matches to decide there they feature when the season eventually draws its curtains close.
