Popular opinion would, without doubt, see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi battle for the status as GOAT (greatest of all time). But Mourinho says otherwise.

The former Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United boss admits Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have earned the status of one of the greatest footballers in history. But won’t particularly take lead on his list.

For Mourinho, that status goes to none other than the talented and skillful, Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima.

Jose understands that both Cr7 and Messi have done the numbers on football records and probably have a dungeon of trophies to back it. But the Portuguese believe Ronaldo (Brazil) deserves that honor, as he was practically untouchable in a very enduring era.

“Ronaldo, El Fenomeno, Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi have had longer careers, they have remained at the top every day for 15 years,” Mourinho told LiveScore.

“However, if we are talking strictly about talent and skill, nobody surpasses Ronaldo [Nazario].

“When he was at Barcelona with Bobby Robson, I realized that he was the best player I’d ever seen take to the field.

“Injuries killed a career that could have been even more incredible, but the talent that that 19-year-old boy had was something incredible.

“In 1997, Barcelona played against PSG in Rotterdam and Ronaldo’s goal, 1-0. Awesome.”

With 352 goals at club level, 62 in 98 appearances for his country, and a bundle to trophies too. Ronaldo without a doubt deserves to sit on the list, as one of the all-time greats. Regardless of where.
