Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, was the major reason the red devils failed to land now Chelsea prospect Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund.

Pulisic was signed by Chelsea in January in a deal worth €64 million. But was allowed to remain at the Bundesliga club, until the summer when he joined up with the squad at Chelsea.

Apparently, Manchester United had a chance to secure the rising star. However, Christian Pulisic refused a move to Manchester United because of his father’s dislike of the club’s then manager Jose Mourinho

According Robin Walker, who coached Pulisic at non-League side Brackley Town. The attacker never contemplated going to Old Trafford because of their former coach. Whose poor record of giving youth a chance saw Pulisic’s father block any potential move to Old Trafford.

“He wouldn’t go to Manchester United because of Jose Mourinho,” Walker told The Telegraph. “His father couldn’t stand Mourinho because he didn’t promote young players.

“It was at that point I asked, ‘What about London? That’s where it’s at.’

“I’m a Chelsea fan, I grew up in London supporting them. When I was in Dortmund last year. I told him that he had to come.”

Christian Pulisic has a large boot to fill at the Stamford bridge, following Eden Hazard’s departure for Real Madrid. The forward has however started off in great fashion, claiming an assist in Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup loss to Liverpool.

Many have backed the USMNT star to surpass Eden’s records at Chelsea. However, while Frank Lampard agrees the forward has the potential. He isn’t looking to put the 20-year-old under such immense pressure at such young age.
