Lionel Messi says, he’s not disappointed at Barcelona’s inability to re-sign Neymar, but admitted he is unsure whether the club did everything possible.
The summer transfer window was littered with news of Neymar’s possible departure from Paris Saint Germain to Barcelona. The deal dragged on to the very final hours of the summer, before both parties eventually gave up to the deadline day on September 2.
Apparently, Lionel Messi would have loved a reunion with the Brazilian. With whom he formed the deadly MSN, alongside Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.
However, while Messi has come to terms with the failed summer move, the talisman is unsure if the club pulled out all the stops to ensure the Neymar returned to the Camp Nou.
“I would have loved for Neymar to come,” Messi explained to Sport.
“Honestly, I don’t know if Barca did everything possible to get him back but I’m sure negotiating with PSG isn’t easy.
“I am not disappointed. We have a spectacular squad that can fight on all fronts, without Ney as well.
“On a sporting level Neymar is one of the best in the world. And with him on the sponsorship and image front the club would have also taken a step up.”
He added: “We never asked for Neymar to be signed, we just gave our opinion.
“Do I run things? It has been demonstrated that it is not the case.”
Lionel Messi remains sidelined with injury, and is very much likely to miss the weekend game against Valencia. However, Barça are hoping the talisman could return in time for their Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund.
