Finally, Ajax teenage Captain Mattijhs De Ligt has found himself a destination for the summer, as the 19-year-old landed in Turin on Tuesday ahead of a €75 million move on Wednesday.
De Ligt who enjoyed an impressive season with Ajax, was rumoured to be close to securing a move to Barcelona, following Frenkie De Jong deal with the Catalans.
Barça had admitted there was an interest from the club for the Dutchman. But there were never any concrete proof, that De Ligt was heading to the Camp Nou this summer.
Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain were also linked as possible destinations for the center back, as Ajax admitted he [Mattijhs De Ligt] was bound to leave the Dutch club.
However, with Juventus having won the race for Mattijhs De Ligt, the player’s agent Mino Raiola, has rubbished claims his client was ever close to going joining teammate Frenkie De Jong in Barcelona.
“Barcelona? You all wrote so much bullsh*t!” Raiola told reporters. “It’s not a question of who wanted him most, but Juve are the best team for him. For a defender it is important to come to Italy. If you are to become the greatest in the world, it is a necessary stage.
“He’s the number one among the youngsters. He’s like [Pavel] Nedved, maybe more than him, for his mentality and he’s like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] for his ambition. He has it all.”
While the case with Mattijhs De Ligt is certainly over, Mino Raiola now has Paul Pogba to deal with, as the agent continues his attempt to engineer a move to Real Madrid.
Raiola had stated Paul Pogba was made up on where he wants to go, claiming the club were aware of this decision. However, when quizzed on whether the Frenchman will be leaving Manchester United this summer, he said.
“I live one day at a time, we’ll see what happens. I’m here today, I don’t know where I’ll be tomorrow.”
