Real Madrid left back Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior is set to ignore earlier plans to make a summer switch to Juventus, in hope to link up with best friend Cristiano Ronaldo.
Marcelo, 30, was rumoured to have accepted an agreement to join up with Cristiano Ronaldo, who sealed a Juventus move in the summer. After falling down the chain of command under Santiago Solari in favour of Sergio Reguilón.
However, with former manager Zinedine Zidane reinstated and set to lead to team through to the end of the season and until 2022. A Bola now claims that one of the requests of the French coach [Zidane] to sign his return to Real Madrid is that Marcelo continues on the team.
There are no conclusions on Marcelo’s future though, as the report states the returning manager will reportedly be in a meeting with Florentino Perez soon, to discuss if Marcelo will leave in the summer, or see out his contract which expires in 2022.
The left back has made 25 appearances so far this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists for teammates. And would be nothing short of happy to see Zidane return to the dugout.
Whilst Marcelo looks set to stay at the Santiago Bernabau under the new manager. One other huge beneficiary of Real Madrid’s latest decision is Isco Alarcon, who is also set to return to the squad following a dispute with previous boss Santiago Solari, which saw him dropped to the bench and subsequently linked to quitting the club at the end of the season.
