Chelsea manager Frank Lampard admits his side needed some luck to beat Ajax. As the manager seemed rather delighted walking away with a 1-0 win.
It was a close shave with the Eredivisie champions, as Chelsea would be thankful to the VAR for keeping them in the game after Quincy Promes was believed to have given his side the lead.
The offside seemed to jolt Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, who took control of the fixture from then on, and eventually secured a win, thanks to a late goal from Michy Batshuayi.
Lampard knew lady luck smiled at him in Ajax win, as the manager admits his happiness at walking away with all three points, from a tough game.
“I’m so happy to come away with this,” said the Chelsea manager, speaking to BT Sport.
“We knew how tough this game was going to be. They are a strong side, the atmosphere was strong and then to play and beat them – and deserve to beat them – the way we did was brilliant. I was so, so proud of the performance.
“I think we deserved our luck today. I think we deserved our breaks, we haven’t had many VAR breaks this year so I suppose it might have been coming, but you create your own luck.
“But for such a creative team they are, we didn’t have Kepa doing too much.”
