Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne believes Columbian ace James Rodriguez will flourish at Napoli, if he chooses the club over transfer rivals Atletico Madrid.

Both clubs are locked in a two-team race for the playmaker, with Real Madrid looking to offload the Columbian this summer.

Napoli have showed interest in signing the player, but have failed to come to terms with Real Madrid, who they believe have made a rather outrageous demand for James’ signature.

Atletico Madrid on the hand seem better positioned financially to complete a deal. But Real are wary of strengthening a direct rival, and would rather look to further negotiate with Napoli.

In the wake of the news of James’ possible arrival, Lorenzo Insigne has aired his view on the playmaker’s potential switch to the Serie A side.

“The doors are open for strong players, we welcome them all,” the Napoli captain told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“James Rodriguez is a true number 10, he has quality and together with us he would be great.

“Those choices, however, are up to the coach and the club.”

Lorenzo believes Napoli are on the right path, after finishing second for two successive seasons, behind eventual winners Juventus. The forward admits Juventus are a powerhouse in the race for the Scudetto, but reveals Napoli are surely getting stronger.

“The Scudetto is everyone’s dream,” He said. “In the past few years we have come close and we have been disappointed. I’m convinced that if we all play with this determination we can cause trouble for anyone.

“We know we have a great competitor like Juve in front of us, but things could change this season with the new coach [at Juve, former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri].

“I think we are getting stronger, but we have to start off on the right foot because we have the potential to fight at the top.”
