Olympique Lyon forward Memphis Depay might want a return to former club Manchester United according to Robert Pires.
Memphis Depay, 25, failed to prove himself in the Premier League following a £30.60 million from PSV Eindoven to Man Utd in 2015. However, having return to Lyon and found a touch of his old self, Pires believes the Dutchman will seek a return to the Premier League in a bid to sign off the doubts and dent of his lack lustre stint with the Red devils.
“I think Depay wants to come back to the Premier League and he feels he has unfinished business in England,” Pires told Bwin.
“It didn’t work out for him at Manchester United and Depay is a very proud player.
“He perhaps feels he wasn’t given a chance to perform and earn the right to stay longer considering he was so young and showed glimpses of undoubted potential.
“Depay might want to return to Manchester United or he might be motivated to prove them wrong by performing for one of their rivals in the Premier League.”
Memphis is under contract with Lyon until 2021, and is valued at £45 million as per Transfermarkt. The 25-year-old has previously revealed he was interested in securing a switch to one of the big teams in Europe.
However, no official bid has been made and United could very well exercise a buy back option inserted in Depay’s deal to Lyon, as Jose Mourinho believed the Dutchman who has scored eight goals and assisted 14 so far in the season for Lyon, could come good someday.
