Manchester City returned to four points within reach of League leaders Liverpool as they comfortably beat Huddersfield 3-0 in the Premier-league weekend fixture.
Former Real Madrid full back gave the citizens the lead early in the first half, as the left back scored his first goal of the season for Manchester City with a deflected strike from outside the penalty area in the 18th minute.
However, despite the strong start from Pep Guardiola’s side, the visitors couldn’t find the net once more as the first half ended 1-0 to City’s advantage.
Manchester City started the second half in strong fashion, as Raheem Sterling got on the score sheet nine minutes after the restart, the winger meeting Leroy Sane’s cross with a diving header to make it 2-0 for the citizens.
Two minutes later and City were safely ahead of Huddersfield with a third. This time, Leroy Sane putting one in the net himself after been found by a cool header from Sergio Aguero.
Huddersfield attempted to salvage a consolation, but the clean sheet was Manchester City’s to take as the fixture finished 3-0 in the end.
The win sees Manchester City on 56 points and still four behind Liverpool who currently lead the pack on 60. While Huddersfield remain bottom of the table with just 11 points from 23 Premier League games.
After the game, Pep Guardiola said he was happy with the squad, as he revealed he “would rather be in Liverpool’s postion”.
On the game
“Second half we were better, especially the first 15. Our rhythm was not quick enough [in the first half] but we would take that result.” Pep Guardiola said.
“I am honest with them and tell them all the time what I feel.”
On squad players
“Kevin De Bryune played 90 minutes, that is good news. When you are iong-time injured you need the rhythm.”
“Sergio Aguero was sick and he needs time.”
“I would rather be in Liverpool’s position. All we can do is win our games. Improve, analyse our games and try to improve. I cannot answer about Liverpool every press conference.”
“Now we have Carabao Cup. We will see.”
On the Premier League title race
“102 is a lot of goals yeah. We have done so good.”
“In the Premier League one team has been better but it’s January and there are many games left to play. In January, you don’t win the league.”
Huddersfield take on Everton in their next Premier League game on the 29th, while Manchester City visit the magpies.
