It’s a day to remember for all things yellow as new signing Erling Haaland got off to a perfect start, scoring a hat trick on his debut to leave Man Utd fans fuming at their terrible miss.
The 19-year-old was tipped to head to Old Trafford this winter but eventually settled for Borussia Dortmund, after Man Utd reportedly decided against completing his move due to Raiola’s demands.
A decision which has already begun to hunt them, as a combo between two of their once top targets in Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho ensured the yellow outfits overturned a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3 on the night.
In effect, Manchester United fans have taken to social media to voice their disappointment over Ed Woodward’s handling of transfer affairs. A mistake which may yet repeat itself in the run for Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes.
One fan wrote: “Woodward I won’t forgive you for Haaland.”
“Woodward you should have spent everything on Haaland.” another said.
One lamented: “Now I see our real problem, and it’s not Solskjaer. Man has identified excellent and exciting young stars to help lift United. But damn Ed Woodward, you would bite the very hand that feeds you.”
Meanwhile, Dortmund coach Lucien Favre would’ve struggled to imagine a better start for Erling Haaland, whose debut he has referred to as ‘incredible’.
“He has started very well,” head coach Favre told Sky. “He immediately showed his strengths with his runs in behind, and of course he scored three goals which is incredible.
“He moves well between the lines, which gives us another way of attacking. He was very good and did very well.
“At 19 years old, he has a huge potential for improvement, that’s the most important thing. It was a crazy game.”
Erling Haaland will most likely return to action on Friday when Borussia Dortmund play Cologne. Although the manager revealed the youngster won’t be starting, as he is not yet 90 minutes ready.
