Manchester City emerged victorious in the Community Shield at Wembley, as Claudio Bravo made a crucial shoot-out save, to help Gabriel Jesus seal the win.

City sprung into action, to start the new season in style, as the citizens took a deserving first half lead. Thanks to Raheem Sterling who forced the ball beyond Alisson in the early minutes of the first half.

Pep Guardiola’s men were the better side in the first 45 minutes, despite losing Bayern Munich linked Leroy Sane to injury. However, the Premier League champions lost touch in the second half, allowing Jurgen Klopp’s Merseyside reds back into the game.

Liverpool wriggled back into the game, and had Claudio Bravo to blame for not lifting the trophy, as the goal keeper kept his team in the match. Forcing the game into penalties, and emerging the hero. As he kept out Georginio Wijnaldum’s effort, allowing Gabriel Jesus to seal the victory.

Jurgen Klopp would be gushing with regret, after watching his side fall short of expectations once more by little to no difference. Both clubs were eventually evenly matched, – bar City who started out on a better note.

Liverpool had a chance earlier on to equalize, had Mohammed Salah been a tad more generous. As the forward left Roberto Firmino fuming over a miss, where a simple was enough to hit the leveller.

Both clubs definitely had a go, as they spawned several chances, Sterling hitting the post, while Virgil Van Dijk and Mohammed Salah were denied by the woodwork.

Manchester City have once more claimed the domestic bragging rights in winning the Community shield. But the citizens know the battle is far from over, and Liverpool are not far behind in the race for the League crown this season.
