Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, is only a couple of months away from becoming a free agent, and has admitted he is still no where close to extending his contract with the red devils.
Herrera is believed to be holding out for a £200,000 a week salary, which United are reportedly not ready to offer. Hence the reports linking the proven midfielder with Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain.
“It’s true that I only have two months on my contract left and, today, Manchester and I aren’t thinking the same and there is no renewal agreement, but my duty is to keep listening to United.” Herrera told ABC.
“What I have clear is that I’m going to continue playing in a big team.
“I take care of myself, I work hard and I want to squeeze as much out of football for as long as my body allows me to, because the day after I retire I will start to regret having retired.
“I will listen to United, of course, but also to other clubs. I do not close any doors.”
Manchester United face Barcelona on Wednesday in the Champions League quarter-finals, and while Herrera admits the Argentine Lionel Messi is a major factor for the catalans, he isn’t writing off United totally yet.
“It is clear that any team that has Messi is favorite to win, but of course we give us options.
“Do not forget the people that come to eliminate PSG and in the history of Champions there are many cases of teams that are not favorites and that end up happening and even winning the Champions, like the Chelsea of Di Matteo.
“It is a very difficult team with few defects, which also has Messi. When the game gets complicated, it appears and makes a difference, but we will have our options.”
Like Herrera, Pogba is on the ledge. The midfielder is expected to produce a world class performance against Barcelona, following a disastrous display in wolves loss. However, Ander Herrera has praised the Frenchman, saying he would be a “great reinforcement for Madrid” but hopes he stays at Manchester United.
“Pogba would be a great reinforcement for Madrid and for any team in the universe, but I hope he remains at United.
“He is a midfielder who has all the qualities. He is good with his head, shoots with both feet, is fast, powerful, helps in defensive tasks, is strong one against one, assists and scores.”
