About National Defence Academy Examination 2021:
NDA is a mandatory examination to be taken by candidates who wish to join the Defence and be recruited either in the National Army, the Air Force, or the Navy. The examination is held twice each year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
After a candidate successfully qualifies the examination, they are sent to the National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla for training. Only after the candidate graduates from NDA are they sent to respective specialized academies of the three forces- Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), and the Air Force Academy (AFA).
The Tentative Schedule for NDA Examination 2021:
The tentative schedule for the two NDA exams, that is NDA 1 and NDA 2, for the year 2021 is given below:
Availability of Application Form– 2nd week of January 2021 for NDA 1 and June 9, 2021, for NDA 2
Last date of application– 4th week of January 2021 for NDA 1 and June 29, 2021for NDA 2
Availability of Admit cards– March 2021 for NDA 1 and August 2021 for NDA 2
NDA 2021 examination date– 3rd week of April 2021 for NDA 1 and September 5th, 2021 for NDA 2
Declaration of the result– May 2021 for NDA 1 and November 2021 for NDA 2
Eligibility Criteria for Candidates of NDA 2021 Examination:
The candidates must be citizens of the country or subjects of Bhutan/Nepal and Tibetan refugees who have settled in India after 1st January 1962 and primarily reside here. Migrants from Sri Lanka, Burma, Pakistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zaire, Malawi, Vietnam, or Ethiopia can also apply for the examination. Foreign individuals need to issue an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.
The candidates who wish to appear for NDA 2 should be born before 2nd January 2020 and not after 1st July 2004. Aspirants born after 1st July 2004 and before 2nd July 2007 are eligible for NDA 1 examination. The marital status of the candidates should be single. The educational criteria to be met for candidates who wish to study in the defense academies differs from one military specialization academy to another:
For Naval and Air force academies, the aspirants should qualify 10+2 examinations from the state board or university.
For the Army wing of NDA, the candidate must have passed 10+2 from any board or equivalent university.
Question Paper Pattern and Syllabus for NDA 2021 Examination :
The question paper has MCQ based questions and is divided into two sections:
The mathematics section needs to be completed within 2 hours and 30 minutes and has a total of 120 questions of 2.5 marks each. Every wrong answer will cost the candidate a deduction of 0.83 marks. The total weightage of this section is 300 and candidates can choose to attempt them either in Hindi or in English.
The General ability test (GAT) section needs to be completed within 2 hours and 30 minutes and has a total of 150 questions of 4 marks each. The marks are distributed into English (200 marks) and GK (400 marks) which makes for a total marks weightage of 600. Every wrong answer will cost the candidates a deduction of 1.33 marks. The candidate needs to attempt the English sub-section in English and The GK sub-section can be attempted in either English or Hindi.
The GAT portion will have questions from:
Physics- 100 marks
Chemistry- 60 marks
General science- 40 marks
History and freedom movement- 80 marks
Geography- 80 marks
Current events- 40 marks
The syllabus of mathematics includes basic arithmetic concepts like sets, real number and compound number, etc, algebra, matrices and determinant, trigonometry, analytical geometry of two and three dimensions, differential calculus, integral calculus and differential equations, vector algebra and statistics, and probability.
