About JEST 2021

Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) is one of the popular screening tests among graduates in India. The test focuses on shortlisting candidates for admission to MSc, Integrated Ph.D., and Ph.D. programs in Physics, Theoretical Computer Science, Neuroscience, and Computational Biology. The candidates are shortlisted through the exam and they are accommodated in twenty public institutions in India.

Important Dates for JEST 2021

The dates provided are tentative because the official notification is yet to release.

  1. November 2020, Second Week; Application for JEST starts
  2. December 2020, Fourth week; Application for JEST ends
  3. January 2021; Admit cards will be available
  4. 16th February 2021; JEST Exam
  5. Last week of March 2021; Result publishing
  6. April 2021; The Interview process

Eligibility criteria for JEST

Ph.D. Program – Physics

The candidates with any of the qualifications mentioned below are eligible for JEST

  • The candidates with M.Sc. Physics is eligible for all the participating colleges.
  • The applicants with Masters in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics or Applied Physics or Photonics and Optics or Electronics or Instrumentation are eligible for the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
  • The applicants having M.Sc. in Electronics or Physics or Applied Mathematics or Astronomy are considered for the Inter-University Centre of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
  • The candidates with B.Tech or B.E. are considered in IISc, ICTS-TIFR, NCRA-TIFR, IMSc, IUCAA, JNCASR, TIFR-TCIS, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, IISER Mohali.
  • The candidates having M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Biophysics, or Biochemistry, physics will be considered in SNBNCBS.
  • In TIFR the candidates with B.Tech in Engineering Physics are considered.
  • In IPR the candidates with Engineering Physics or Applied Physics are eligible.
  • In NISER the candidates with M.E./ M.Tech in Applied Physics will be considered.

Ph.D. Program – Theoretical Neuroscience or Computational Biology or Computer Science

  • The candidates with M.E./ M.Sc. / M.Tech. in Computer Science and related disciplines are eligible in Theoretical Computer Science at IMSc.
  • The candidates with M.Sc. Physics or Mathematics, B. E/M.C.A./ B.Tech in Computer Science will be eligible in Neuroscience at NBRC.
  • The candidates with M.E/ M.Sc. / M.Tech. / MCA in Science or any engineering discipline is eligible in Computational Biology at IMSc.

Integrated M.Sc. / M.Tech – Ph.D Programme.

  • The candidates with B.Sc. Physics will be considered at IMSc.
  • The candidates with B.Sc. Mathematics or Physics will be considered at SNBNCBS.
  • The candidates with B.E. or B.Sc Physics or B. Tech in Engineering Physics will be considered at NISER.
  • In IIA B.Sc. Mathematics or Physics or B.Tech. in Electrical or B.E. / Engineering Physics /Instrumentation/ ComputerScience and Engineering /Electronics and Communications / Optics and Photonics are eligible.
  • In Bose Institute B.Sc. Mathematics /Physics / B.Tech. / B.E are considered.
  • The candidates with B.Sc. Physics will be considered at IISER-Pune, TIFR-TCIS, and NCRA-TIFR, ICTS-TIFR.

Integrated Ph.D. Program in Theoretical Computer Science at IMSc

  • The candidates with B.E. /B.Sc. /B.Tech. /M.C.A. in Computer Science or related disciplines is eligible.

Integrated M.Tech – Ph.D. Program at IIA

  • The candidates with M.Sc. Physics / Applied Physics / Post-B.Sc. (Hons) in Optoelectronics and Optics / Electronics & Radio Physics are eligible.

M.Sc. Programme at HRI

  • The candidates with B.E. or B. Sc. Physics/B.Tech. degree in any discipline is eligible.

Integrated Ph.D. Program at IISER. Thiruvananthapuram

  • The candidates with B.E. or B. Sc. Physics/B.Tech. degree in any discipline is eligible.

Exam Pattern of JEST 2021

  • The exam is conducted with MCQ questions.
  • There are two divisions in the question paper named A and B.
  • Three marks are allotted for the right answers.
  • There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
  • The question paper is in the English language.

Steps in application of JEST 2021

  1. The applicants must visit the official website of JEST
  2. On visiting the same you can see the notification of JEST, click on the Registration link.
  3. By clicking on the same it will take to the registration phase.
  4. Fill the details asked and after that, the registration id will be received.
  5. The candidates can log in with the received details and you can upload documents.
  6. After that, the payment option will appear.
  7. On successful payment, the candidates can download the confirmation page of the JEST application for future references.
