Popular teen drama Derry girls are all set to be getting a third season. Reportedly, however, the filming of the third season got delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It is safe to say that the fans of Derry Girls can expect the producers to release the third series sometime in mid-2021.
The Plot of Derry Girls Season 3
The story revolves around a group of teenage friends in their high school years against the backdrop of a small Irish town of Derry in the early 90s. The group consisting of Michelle, Erin, Orla, and a British boy James stumbles to find themselves through a maze of complicated relationships and processes of self-awareness that characterizes their adolescence.
The country of Ireland was also in the process of starting a new political beginning during this time among continuous clashes between the Catholic and Protestant faiths and was gradually moving towards peace.
The first two seasons also traced the process by which James struggles to fit himself in an unknown town, in an all-girls Catholic school until he refuses to leave his friend behind and is accepted by the girls as “one of the Derry girls” at the end of the second season.
What to expect from Derry Girls Season 3
Neither the show’s producer Hat Trick production nor the show’s online streaming platform Netflix has officially confirmed the release date or cast of the third season, there are reasons to believe that the original cast members including Dylan Llewellyn as James Maguire, Nicola Coughlan as Clare Devlin, Loisa Harland as Orla McCool and Saoirse-Monica as Erin Quinn along with the other stars will be back for the drama known for its witty take on the problems of adolescence and growing up in a small town.
